The Mid Week Rant

Why, oh why, are so many men (I've not witnessed a female doing this yet) walking around with their phone bluetooth headsets on, when they are not on a call?
They seem to be wearing them as if they are a fashion accessory.
They are not. You look stupid. Take them off.
While on the subject of men looking silly...why, when pushing a pram/buggy/baby stroller, do some men push it while walking to the side of it?
Instead of putting one hand on each handle, they put their right hand on the left handle and push while walking to the side.
Is this the more masculine way of pushing it? Is it a secret code type thing which is telling the world that he is not really the kid's father or what?
Look...even a toddler knows how to push one properly.
Finally for today, I am now calling on the Minister for Transport, or whoever is responsible, to amend the Road Traffic Act to include a new set of penalty points.
Well, either penalty points and/or a fine and/or an endorsement and/or possible prison sentence.
Now see that above. It's an L Plate. Most learner drivers are able to put one up on their front and rear windscreens no problem.
However, there are MUPPETS out there who seem to be incapable of this simple task (yes Mr Muppet driving the 95-TN Renault on the N8 on Sunday, I am talking about you).
This is what you end up with staring back at you:
In all fairness, if someone can't put the L the right way round, how can they possibly tackle the intricacies of driving a car, let alone figuring out the rules of the road.

I'm Making A Difference
THIS caught my attention this morning.
It's apparently a new initiative from Microsoft where they promise to "share a portion of the program's advertising revenue" when you have conversations on Windows Live Messenger.
They list their chosen charities too - from the Red Cross to stopglobalwarming.org.
Is there a catch though?
EDIT - it would seem that it is not available in Ireland just yet.
At this time, the i’m™ initiative is available only in the United States. You're still welcome to download Windows Live™ Messenger; however, you will not be able to participate in the i’m initiative yet. Thank you for your interest.
EDIT 2 - how the hell did microsoft manage to trademark "i'm" ????

What's the bigger crime?
Limerick man robbed pizzas with semi-automatic shotgun
The brother of murdered Limerick gangland victim "Fat" Frankie Ryan has admitted robbing a pizza deliveryman with a semi-automatic shotgun.
John Ryan (aged 27), Delmege Park, Moyross, Limerick threatened the Dominos Pizza employee with a Browning Semi-automatic shotgun and robbed him of two pizzas.
Mr Ryan pleaded guilty yesterday at Limerick Circuit court today, to having the weapon in his possession for an unlawful purpose on November 29, 2006 at 52 Delmege Park Moyross.
The 27-year-old also pleaded guilty to a charge of robbing Andriy Koualov of two pizza's worth €44 on the same date.
Judge Carroll Moran adjourned sentencing in the case until May 11 when a date will be set for evidence to be heard at the sentencing hearing.
What's the bigger crime?
A) Robbing two pizzas with a semi-automatic shot gun?
B) The fact that two pizzas now cost €44?
Answers on a post card to the usual address.

Home & Away

Others are starting to worry that I am getting too hooked on Home & Away.
I think everyone in Ireland has watched Home & Away at some stage in their lives and I was no different. Watching it back in my school days when it had Bobby, Frank, Ailsa, Fisher, and Irene was "on the grog".
Alf is still on the go of course! The flamin' mongrel.
I was recently away for 2 weeks and Sky+'ed (is that a verb these days?) Home & Away while I was away. I watched all 10 episodes of it that I had missed, back-to-back, when I got home.
Yes, it is crap. Yes, the story lines make NO SENSE whatsoever. But damn it, it's fun to watch.
